Plastic shipping units can be molded to many different specifications. While all plastic components are designed to weather the punishing demands of transportation and delivery, there are a many different styles to hold various types of cargo. From stackable and nestable bins to attached lid containment and bulk boxes, plastic shipping containers are all designed with specific conditions and constraints under consideration.
The Four Room House These are stacked vertically on four different floors. These highly talented Belgian architects Pieter Peelings and Silvia Mertens of Sculp(IT) have designed a compact home for living. Every one of the 4 rooms serves a specific function and purpose. Starting from the bottom up, there is a spiral staircase which links a work floor, then a kitchen/dining room floor, the living room floor and on the highest floor, a bedroom and bathroom.

A mobile home lacks the hardy construction of an all-steel shell and the stackabilty of the engineered container building block. Whereas the mobile home is rather dangerous in a high wind-speed storm, the container home is more than strong enough to withstand the high pressure. Buildings constructed out of shipping containers have a modern building block feel to them, often reminding an observer of an oversized Lego structure.
Water is fickle. It can be as light as air and as heavy as a rock. Digging a pit, of the exact dimensions of the container, in the ground and fitting in the pool is not enough. It has to be strengthened to ensure that it can bear the force of water. Plus, shipping containers are created to withstand pressure only on the floor and corners. Hence, the second phase of installing a container pool is hiring a firm or individual who has a structural engineering background. They will guarantee that the pool and ground are reinforced.
Like standard commercial modular buildings, shipping container based modular building foundations can be anything from a compacted stone, a concrete pad, piers, or a full perimeter basement foundation. The choices here will be driven by many things including but not limited to; how temporary or permanent the application is, the load bearing capacity of the soil under the building, the use of the building and most importantly the local building officials determinations.
